The Wilberforce Bells of Holy Trinity
On Friday 21st September 2007 a Quarter Peal of Plain Bob Doubles, was rung at Holy Trinity Parish church, Kingston Upon Hull to commemorate the baptism of William Wilberforce. The Peal consisted of 1260 changes. It was rung by James T. Shaw, Christine Noble, Robin Alden, Howard Pickering, Ross R. McKenzie, Robert S. Shaw, and conducted by Mr. Ross R. McKenzie.
Making the ceramic markers at Hull College
During 2007 students on the Ceramics courses at Hull College studied the ideas behind the Trail, researched background information about slavery, emancipation and Hull's distinctive role toward abolition in 1807.
Hull’s Africa Forum and the Sankofa Bird
The 'Walking with Wilberforce' group was introduced to the Sankofa bird and its story by members of Hull's Africa Forum. They were creating designs for the ceramic markers in workshops led by Adele Howitt.
This challenging idea coincided with an image of a free-flying bird proposed for the ceramic markers being made at Hull College Ceramics Department.
